Scam Prevention Guide

A reddit report about a impersonation scam that cost someone Amount not specified. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

Hi, Very recently, a friend of mine recommended that I come to a private group seminar for investors. What I didn’t expect was to be outright sold what I suspect is some sort of pyramid scheme. This very private seminar, for which you had to register on a list and show identification to enter, was basically promising unrealistic returns (7000% over a ā€œcouple of years,ā€ 24% annual interest on bank transactions, no tax, etc.). It seemed very cult-like for some reason, with some theories about government collapse going around. ETFs and every other fund or classic investment were described as scams by banks that will collapse, along with some more weird stuff. Needless to say, I lost interest quickly but decided to just stay quiet so as not to cause problems. I am worried about my friend and some of the people there, since these were mostly older people (around 50–60 years old) and didn’t seem to know better. I made some notes with some websites they said one should visit, and it was no surprise to me that they looked fraudulent, as ā€œa tax haven investment bank in Georgia linked to a crypto walletā€ could look. I think it’s a pyramid scheme based on how they described it, with them even offering that once you pay in, you should sell it to your friends, and so on. Long story short, I just want to ask what you would do in my situation. I’ve been thinking about going to the authorities and showing them what I found. It’s not my business, but what looked like families could lose their savings to some scumbag, and it just doesn’t sit right with me.
