The keywords are right, the tools are real, and the salary ranges are attractive but not outrageous enough to raise flags. Then comes the outreach. It's warm and personalized, and it references your specific background in a way that makes you feel seen. The interview process kicks off normally enough, but at some point there's a technical screening. They ask you to walk through how you investigate a case, what tools you use, how your team is structured, how you document fraud patterns, and what your escalation process looks like. And that's the whole game. They were never going to hire you. They wanted your playbook. The flags my network mentioned were consistent. Responses came suspiciously fast. Follow-up questionnaires felt slightly off. And when people started noticing the trend, the same red flags kept showing up across different fake companies: newly registered domains, fabricated employee rosters, zero posting history, and hiring volume that made no sense for their supposed size and geography.
