Phishing Scam Warning

A reddit report about a phishing scam that cost someone Amount not specified. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

I wanted to share this because when trying to look it up here the answers are always "someone is trying to log in with your email they got somewhere else", but that's not the case here... Email arrives with subject "amazon com: Password recovery" \[dot removed by me for sub rules\]. Looks exactly like an official email and all the links are simple and actually point to Amazon. I thought "great someone is trying to get into my account" but then I noticed that the "to" email address isn't mine, it's some random gmail account. What's the play here? The email also has a very oddly formatted "Not You ? Call Now : 1-(818) ### ####," at the top \[numbers removed by me\]. Amazon definitely has the money to spring for a 1-888 number. Looking at all the behind-the-scenes details of the email, it looks like it was sent to the gmail account but was forwarded to a proton email group (which my email must have been added to). At some point the scam phone number was added (failing the ARC verification) but because all the email servers are valid it wasn't considered spam (or my gmail is set to never send emails from Amazon addresses to spam). So yeah, don't call any strange phone numbers in emails, always look them up on the website. No one was trying to reset my Amazon password specifically so that makes me feel better. https://preview. redd. it/efj6sigg2mrg1. png?width=1620&format=png&auto=webp&s=4219ef4e2767654229945f91081b519e2a958fa3
