This happened about a year ago but it still sits with me in a really weird way. I was a student at the time and honestly not doing great financially, so when I got this 2-day âpaid volunteeringâ thing with a bakery in Gurgaon, I took it seriously. We had already discussed pay (âš1500ââš2000/day + travel), so I travelled almost 2 hours from Sonipat to Cyber Hub for it. They were already late, but I stayed and worked the whole day. I was handling sales/marketing and I genuinely put in effort...I made around 25-35 sales myself, kept updating them, even helped when we ran out of stock and had to carry and restock everything. I barely sat. I barely took breaks. I just wanted to do well. At one point I stepped away for like 10â15 minutes and took one call from my dad. Thatâs it. And then out of nowhere, I get a call saying âyour work is done, you can leave.â I asked about payment and she just said I wouldnât be paid. No discussion. Just that. She said I was âroaming around all day,â âtaking calls,â and ânot making sales,â which honestly felt so unfair because I knew how much I had done. I tried explaining but she just said âdo whatever you wantâ and cut the call. I even asked her to at least cover my travel and she refused that too. I remember just standing there feeling so small and helpless. I had travelled 2 hours, worked the whole day, and suddenly it was like none of it counted. I called my dad and just cried. Itâs been a year and Iâve moved on, but I still think about it sometimes...not even just about the money, but how easily someone can treat you like that when youâre trying your best. If anyoneâs wondering, Iâm honestly okay naming the place if needed. I just didnât have the energy or confidence back then to deal with the aftermath of calling them out.
