My boyfriend without me being aware got roped into a FB marketplace scam. The scammer said that their brother passed and they were giving away his steam deck super cheap. He told my bf to contact him over text message, not over FB. My bf gave his address and then tried sending money over chime, which got denied by chime. Then he tried cash app, and cash app gave him a scam/fraud warning and denied the transaction. Then the scammer told him to use bitcoin and my boyfriend got suspicious and backed out. The scammer then sent my boyfriend pictures of a bunch of guns and weapons and said he knows where he lives and will hurt and kill everyone who lives at his house (I do not live with him). I'm really scared and I don't know what the proper steps are. He's scared too. I told him to contact the police but I'm not sure what they will be able to do. The scammer also sent a printout of a receipt, the screenshot my bf sent was too low quality to make out much but I definitely made out my bf's address, and the scammer also sent a picture of the fedex storefront. I have no idea where this scammer is located. Its just my bf and his grandma in a big house and they have no way to defend themselves and I don't think his grandma could run away if needed. I'm just terrified right now and could use any reassurance, advice, next steps, or just ANYTHING that could help would be very appreciated! And yes I told my bf where he went wrong and that the dead relative + cheap product is a common scam! Edit: Thank you for the reassuring comments. Police have been contacted and I've calmed down significantly.
