Romance Scam Story - $700.0 Lost

A reddit report about a romance scam that cost someone $700.0. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

Cheryl Dee Newfoundlands Pup is a scam business operating via Facebook. They identify as a Newfoundland breeder/rescue. They also are the administrators of Newfoundland Lovers and Re-home (separate FB page). I thought I was adopting a puppy that needed to be rehomed. On the day of delivery I was notified via text that I need to pay a refundable $700 crate fee and then 3 hours before her expected delivery (when they were already supposedly 3 hours into the drive) I was notified that I need to pay a $1500 “refundable” transport insurance fee. They asked me multiple times for my “Apple cash history”, as did the “shipping company”. 45 minutes before our expected delivery, it was obvious the puppy hadn’t even left Buffalo and probably didn’t exist. After I refused to pay the insurance fee there were multiple attempts asking for Apple Pay history and then I was asked to “just pay $200 more dollars”. We never got the puppy and we lost $900. It seems they may have taken a legit breeder’s page because they are now reposting her posts from last year.
