Romance Scam Story - $35000.0 Lost

A reddit report about a romance scam that cost someone $35000.0. Learn how to avoid falling victim.

My elderly uncle just told me that he was scammed out of $35,000 from his HELOC and now he’s afraid he’s going to have to sell his house. I don’t have all the details, but it had something to do with a virus and he thought he was calling Microsoft. I’m not sure exactly what they said but they told him to tell the bank that he needed $35,000 to help send his nephew to college. I’m not sure why his bank let him wire money to another bank since they know him, but they did. Does anyone have any success with having these kind of things forgiven or reversed? It was a local bank that wired the money to Wells Fargo. Would love some insight because he truly could have to sell his house to recoup this.
